Description	:	Arthur Sandal, a resident of the Moenville-Kirley Community in the northwestern part of Haakon County, died at his home Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Deep creek Lutheran Church Saturday 27, 1975 at 2 pm with Rev. Timothy Strommen officiating. Burial was in the Deep Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home. Music was provided by Camen Alleman, organist; Dorothy Mitchell and Dorothy Paulson, soloists, singing "Beautiful Savior" and the congregation of neighbors and friends singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". The church and basement were filled to overflowing by friends and relatives who came to pay final tribute to this good neighbor, ever thoughtful father and friend. Arthur Sandal was born August 5, 1901 to Ole and Anna Sandal at Bristol, SD and died June 25, 1975 at his home as the result of an accident. In 1906, when this part of SD was opened to homesteaders, Art's father proved up a claim, Art with his mother, brothers and sisters then came west crossing the Missouri River by ferry boat and coming on by covered wagon. Art spent the rest of his life in this community. He received his education in rural schools of Haakon County. In 1916 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Halvor Jensen and since then has been a faithful, regular attendant of the Deep Creek Lutheran Church. Art worked at homes a few years and later for Mike Feeney, Bill Hayes and Albert Alleman. He also did custom haying, dam and road work before establishing his own home and farming operations. Arthur Sandal and Mildred Wilsbacher were married in Philip, Feb. 12, 1927 by Rev. Bly at the Lutheran Parsonage. Three sons were born to them, Arthur Leo, Morris, and Don. Art had an active interest in many things. In the 1930's he played on the Moenville Baseball team. From 1931 to 1953 the Moenville Post Office was located in their home. For many years Art was a county Extension board member. He worked in the ASC Office in Philip. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Midland, the Oriental Consistory of Yankton, the Naja Shriners of Deadwood. He was an orginal stockholder of the 4-Corners Association and worked with the Hayes Dramastic club. He belonged to the South Dakota Stockgrowers. He was still Township Treasurer, besides holding many offices in the Deep Creek Congregation. For many years Art has been church custodian and has worked on all cemetery projects. Accompanied by his wife, he made many trips over the world. In the passing of Art Sandal, a good husband, father, grandfather and neighbor was taken from this community. He was devoted church worker and life member of the Deep Creek Church. He always worked for the best of the community and enjoyed the good will and confidence of all his acquaintances, being ever ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son Arthur, three sisters and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons Morris of Sturgis and Don of Hayes; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Harris of Sturgis and Esther Curry of Pierre; four brothers, Pete of Sturgis, Walter of Ottumwa, Roy of Pierre and Conrad of Fargo, ND, besides many cousins nieces, nephews and friends. Relatives attending from a distance were Mr and Mrs Bill Wilsbacher from Hinton, IA, Richard Wilsbacher, Hot Springs, Mrs. Susan Craig, Pleasant Hill, CA., Mr and Mrs Dick Bentley and Mrs. Bonnie Mae Bender from Rapid City; Pete Sandal and Mrs. Minnie Harris from Sturgis; Mr. Mrs. Ray Harris from Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs Warren Breeding and Becky from White Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Bummer, Mrs. Clara Haugenoe, Mrs. Alice Klebe and Mrs. Richard Haugenoe from Crosby, ND. Conrad Sandal from Fargo, ND; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sandal from Plainsview; Mrs. and Mrs. Patrick Simmons and children from Deadwood and Jeffery Iseman from Washington.
