D., a son of William and Louisa (Voss) Morarend. He was married on August 17, 1932, in Gallena, Ill., to the former Edna Blume. He was a lifelong Guttenberg area farmer. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Wilford (LaVonne) Parker and Sandra Morarend, both of Guttenberg; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Lundt of Guttenberg and Mrs. Otto (Alfa) Blume of Wyoming, Ia.; and two brothers, Irvin of Colesburg and Marvin of Prairie du Chien, Wis. +++ 1984 History of Clayton County, Iowa, pg. 524 August and Edna Blume Morarend: August John (A. J.) Morarend was born in Emery, S.D., July 12, 1899, to William and Louisa Voss Morarend. As about the age of five he moved back to Clayton Co., Ia., along with his parents, two older brothers, Arno and Henry, older sister Ella and younger brother and sister, Archie and Cora. His father had purchased a farm (later the Archie Morarend farm) from his dad Dietrich (Dick) Morarend. Later, another sister, Alfa, and two more brothers, Ervin and Marvin, were born there. When August was grown, he farmed with his brother, Henry, for a couple of years and then Henry moved to Gilman, Wis. August farmed by himself and later bought the farm three miles north of Guttenberg. August went by his initials A. J. most of his life because he was named after an uncle who lived a short distance from him. So to save confusion especially over the mail he used A. J. as his name. A. J. married Edna Marie Blume August 17, 1932, at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Galena, Ill. The Morarends celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 15, 1982, at the home of their daughter, LaVonne Parker. Edna Marie Blume Morarend was born Jan. 1909, at Millville, Ia., to Charlie (Carl) and Dottie Jane Kauffman Blume. In Oct. of 1972 they sold their farm to Dr. Robert and Karen Merrick and moved to 818 N. 3rd St. in Guttenberg. The two children of A. J. and Edna are: (Judith) LaVonne b. June 8, 1933, m. Wilford D. Parker on June 27, 1953; Sandra Sue b. Nov. 30, 1937. Five grandchildren are: Steven Bruce (Peco) Parker b. Dec. 25, 1953, m. Jane Kann on March 19, 1977; Jeffery Duane Parker b. March 12, 1955, m. Julie Finch on April 12, 1980; James Matthew (Jimmer) Parker b. Aug. 29, 1956; Nancy Marie Parker b. Aug. 6, 1961, m. Jeffrey Marcum on June 25, 1983; and Joseph August Parker b. Nov. 6, 1963. Four great-grandchildren are: Jeremy Joe Parker b. Aug. 16, 1977; Valerie Ann Parker b. Aug. 30, 1979; Jordon Lee Parker b. Jan. 10, 1982. All are children of Steven and Jane Parker.
