Sons Pallbearers Pallbearers for the services were the six sons, who survive with Mr. Morarend and three daughters. Louisa Voss Morarend was born December 18, 1870, in Pommerania, Germany, the daughter of John and Marie Voss. She came to this country with her mother at the age of three years. From the age of seven years to 18 years she was in the home of William Oelke of Farmersburg. Wed in South Dakota On October 24, 1898, she was married to William Morarend at Emmory, South Dakota. They came to Clayton county in 1904 and made their home in Guttenberg at that time. Mrs. Morarend is survived by Mr. Morarend, and six sons and three daughters. Arno of Osterdock, Mrs. Ella Borcherding of Guttenberg, Henry of Gillman, Wisconsin, August of Guttenberg, Archie of Guttenberg, Mrs. Cora Luedt of Osterdock, Mrs Alfa Blume of Wyoming, Iowa, Erwin of Colesburg and Marvin of Guttenberg. A brother, Fred Voss of Emmorty, South Dakota, also survives, along with 24 grandchildren. +++ 1984 History of Clayton County, Iowa, pg. 526 William and Louise Voss Morarend Wm. (Bill) Morarend born July 6, 1866, son of Dietrich and Dorothea Schroeder Morarend. Bill married Elizabeth Louise Voss born Dec. 18, 1870, on Oct. 24, 1893, in Emery, S.D.,.where they lived until 1904. He had gone there to find work. They settled on a farm in Sec. 25, 26, and 36 in Jefferson Twp. They are the parents of nine children: Arnold, Ella married Otto Borcherding, Henry, August, Archie, Cora married Herbert Lundt, Alfa married Otto Blume, Ervin and Marvin. Henry and Marvin lived in Wis. Upon retirement they lived south of Guttenberg and then in the rock house beside the cemetery, where a grandson, Lyle lives now. Elizabeth Louise died July 19, 1940, and Bill died June 6, 1943. They are buried in the city cemetery.
