Layton Died – at his home near Stratford, Iowa, February 10, 1897, B. F. Layton at the age of 66 years. He was born in Butler County, Indiana, February 6, 1831. In 1849 he was married to Mary J. Blackburn of Warren County, Indiana who died in 1851. They had one daughter, Eliza, the wife of J. W. McKinney, of Stratford. He moved to Hamilton County in 1854, and was united in marriage to Mary J. Stuart of Hook's Point, Iowa, August 10, 1862. He leaves a wife and five children, three sons and two daughters, to mourn his loss. He was an affectionate husband and loving father, a friend and companion. His noble and upright life was standard of emulation to all. The God in whom he had explicit faith, who gave the life, has taken it away. The voice is now hushed but the spirit is dwelling with the one who gave it, in the world beyond. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Martindale, of Stanhope, were held at the home of the deceased and the remains were interred in Oakwood Cemetery.
