McKinney, aged 45 years, 6 months and 10 days. Miss Sarah Eliza Layton was born at Shelbyville, Indiana, Sept. 9, 1851. At the early age of 15 months her mother died, leaving her in the care of her grandparents. In 1855 she moved with them to Webster Co., Iowa, and on Jan. 25, 1868 she was united in marriage to John W. McKinney. The first year of their married life was spent near Hook's Point, after which they moved onto a farm in Dakota, where five of the happiest years of her life were passed. They then returned to Iowa and settled on a farm east of Stratford, and afterwards moved to town in 1888, where she with her husband, spent the remaining years of her life. Mrs. McKinney was a faithful wife, an industrious housekeeper, and a most kind and charitable neighbor. Her death was caused by cancer, she having suffered intensely throughout the last eight years. During the past year she has been entirely helpless, and being an invalid she was deprived of many of the benefits of church and society, though during all the years of affliction she never complained but bore the most severe pain patiently, until her Creator saw fit to call her to that better world where she will know no more pain or sorrow, but where all is joy and peace and happiness. Only a few weeks ago her father was laid to rest, while her husband together with numerous relatives and friends are left to mourn her departure. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church, Sunday, March 21, conducted by Rev. Dunlap. His text was taken from the 39th Psalm: "Lord, make me to know mind end, and the measure of my days, what it is, that I may know how frail I am."
