He was married to Mary Agnes Widman in St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict, May 24, 1910. There are 11 children: Leander of the USS Sailfish, stationed at San Diego; Albert of the USS Yorktown, New York City; Mrs. Edna Congdon, Derby, CO; Mrs. Loretta Baker, Oneida; Lela, Evelyn, Geraldine, Rita, Raymond, Irene and Jimmie of the home. His brothers and sisters are: John, Edward, Tony, Joe, and William of Seneca; Fred, Charlie, Rosa McCaffery; Anna Grothjan, Wamego; A. B. "JacK" of St. Mary's; Mrs. Jerome McQuaid and Monroe are deceased. Barney had lived at his last place of residence southwest of Baileyville 22 years. He had always engaged in farming, but also operated a saw mill and a threshing machine. He was devoted to his family and to his faith and will be greatly missed in west Nemaha county. The active pallbearers were: Lawrence Haug, Frank Claeys, Leo Henry, Fred Kuckelman, Frank Kohake, Sam Barnes. The honorary group was composed of six brothers: Tony, A.B. "Jack", Fred, Charles, Joe and William. Aug. 4, 1941 - Courier-Tribune, Seneca, Kansas: Dorothy Marie (Congdon) Adams, wrote this about her grandfather Bernard Pius Haug Bernard, son of an immigrate German Father, 11th born of 15 children. Schooled at St. Benedict, Kansas. In 1910 married Mary Agnes Widman. He worked on farms at St. Benedict, Kansas. and Axtell, Kansas, after his marriage. In 1919, moved to the town of Baileyville, Kansas to live. Soon after purchased a farm of some acres, southwest of Baileyville, Kansas in about 1918 / 1919. Lived his lifetime on this farm. Died, accidentally, while fishing south of his home, on the Big Vermillion in Kansas. At this time six children of his twelve children were working out, married, or in the Armed Services; leaving six children on the farm under the age of seventeen years of age. This farm was his Heirs Estate, fifty years later, in 1962 - 63. was stated this farmhouse (made of Kansas native limestones was and early day overland stage coach, overnight stopping point). Bernard and Mary Haug children were born at this farm, except the five eldest one's were born at St. Benedict, Kansas. Leander was killed in an auto accident in California; during WWII, while returning to his ship. Melita died in Infancy at about two years of age of Typhoid Fever. Edna died of a massive Hemmorringe. During WWII their children moved many times. Edna lived mostly Powhatan, Kansas, Brighton, Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Denver, Colorado. Loretta lived Sabetha, Kansas, Seneca, Kansas, Manhattan, Kansas, Wichita, Kansas. Lela has lived in Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, and California. Albert (Bud) has lived in Centralia, Kansas, and Baileyville, Kansas, on parents farm. Evelyn has lived in Axtell, Kansas and Wichita, Kansas. Geraldine has lived in Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, and California mostly. Rita has lived in Kansas and Colorado. Raymond (Pat) has lived in Seneca, Kansas, and California. Irene has lived in Seneca and Wichita, Kansas. James has lived in Seneca, Kansas, California, Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming. After Bernard death, his younger children and widow farmed another twenty years on the farm they purchased. About 1950 Mary A. Haug, Irene and James moved to the town of Seneca, Kansas. Raymond (Pat) was farming the home place, until Raymond (Pat) entered US Navy in1953 - 1955. Albert (Bud) took and farmed the home place then, since James was still in school in Seneca, Kansas. Bernard (Barney) Haug, was an perfectionist at distillery of home beer (German - Crafted, handed down from his father and elder descendants from town of Rothenberg and Wurmlinger, Germany.) "SECRET" ingredient is Corn Sprouts grown one inch, then dried in hot sun, grounded to powder, added to brew, as an enzyme. Enzyme is the Culture need to make beer. Bernard Pius, ancestry in Germany are very faithful Catholic's, the family Church has a large three and a half X five and a half foot framed picture of HAUG ancestors in print at Wurmlinger, Germany; a village nearby Rothenberg, Germany, which is a Catholic community. The original Haug Estate is not far from there. They Grew Grapes, farmed and had a wagon Industry that was in the nearby town. Bernard (Barney) had only two grandchildren before his death, his daughter Edna had a girl and boy. 1(Dorothy Marie Congdon born on 7 Feb. 1931) and 2(Chester Eugene Congdon who was born on 3 Oct. 1932) Barney died before other grandchildren were born.
