Bertha was confirmed 1 May 1898 at the Kvikne Church. Her surname and residence are given as Kvalen, and her birth place as Graupe (a nearby farm in the Kvikne sub-parish). She was rated "almost very good" in her studies. She was vaccinated 29 Jul 1885. Berthe married Fredrik Kristiansen Heide in Norway. Their first child, Thora, was born and died in Norway in 1903. The book "Gardar og Slekter i Fron" says Berte Heide came to America in 1904, while the 1920 US census says Fredrik came to America in 1903, and an unconfirmed source says Fredrik and Bertha left Norway together 11 Feb 1904. Their next child, Christ, was born in South Dakota in 1904. Their other three children were born in North Dakota. Berthe died in Divide County, ND, 18 or 25 Feb 1918 (sources are contradictory on her death date), and was a resident of Divide County.
