Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Rick Lewis and Rev. Leonard Griffith will be the officiants. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Kester was born on Feb. 28, 1905 in Samson, Ala. to Jonah and Dixie (Gilman) Keith. On May 28, 1948 in Carlsbad, N.M. she married Joubert Kester. She moved to Sterling from Artesia, N.M. that same year, making Sterling her permanent home. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She enjoyed painting, which she took up at age 80. She also enjoyed her friends and family. Mrs. Kester is survived by one son, Keith McElvain and wife Chris of Northglenn; two step sons, Albert Kester and wife Karen of New Raymer, Donald Kester and wife Betsy. of Denver; one stepdaughter; Joyce Woods of Saginaw, Mich.; two brothers, Ralph Keith and wife Kay of Rosewell, N.M., Jonah Keith of Lubbock, Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Williamson and hus band Walt of Lubbock, Texas, Aree Hicks and husband J.D. of Munday, Texas, Faye Smith and husband Ben of Paradise, Calif.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, two brothers and one son, Gary McElvain. Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
