Bertha Lienhart was born in Bassersdorf, Zurich, Switzerland, daughter of Hans (John) Ulrich Lienhart and Verena Schmid (or Schmidt). She was the ninth child of the couple. She came to the US as a young woman with six siblings. Her parents remained behind in Switzerland. A family document I have show some sibling names are different than above - probably nicknames or someone misread a spelling of a name: Mary, Alice (Elisa is in parentheses behind her name), Sean, Jacob and Lena (Lena is a half sister). When she was 7 years old, her father Hans Ulrich LIENHART died (3/5/1877). When she was 39 years old, her mother Verena SCHMID died (1908). She was a resident of Ash Grove Township when she met John Henry True. One of her brothers was an Army Physician, serving in Virginia. Probably WWI. Lena lived in North Dakota. She married John Henry True on January 4th, 1892 in Cissna Park, IL. Another document I have states their wedding was January 21st, 1892. She was 22 years old at the time, and he was 21. Together they raised eleven children. Children are: Elizabeth True Kehne Lena True Denham Anna "Annie" True Siemers Alice True Franke Fritz W. True Mabel "Mae" Alice True Krejci Sophia "Susie" True Jordan Clara True Robbins Christian H. True Verena True Woster John "Jack" Henry True, Jr. They also had three children who died as babies: Twins Elanor and Ethel Violet Jackie Krejci (granddaughter) has a funny memory of Grandma Bertha. She went to visit her grandparents and when Bertha was putting the girls to bed, she reached down to Jackie to give her a goodnight kiss, and her teeth fell of her mouth onto Jackie, who had no idea there was such a thing as false teeth, being a young child of 4-5. Bertha thought it was hilarious and laughed, though Jackie was so startled. Jackie also remembers a round metal tub being filled with water and set in the yard to warm, then Jackie and sister Frankie would play in the tub. Bertha passed away in Avoca, Nebraska, when she was 70 years old. Her husband survived for 13 more years. Partial Obituary (not sure what newspaper) - handwritten date of July 1939. Death of Mrs. John True at Cedar Creek. Long Time Resident of this part of the county dies after 3 months illness early today. Mrs. John True, 70, a resident of near Plattsmouth and Cedar Creek for a period of more than fourty years, passed away this morning at the family home near Cedar Creek after an illness that covered the past three months. Altho ill last year for a short time, it was not until late this spring that her condition became serious. Bertha Linhart was a native of Switzerland and came to the United States when eighteen years of age and first located in Kansas, where she was married to John True. In her lifetime here, she has made many friends who will regret to learn of her passing. She was a very devout wife and mother and had reared a family of eleven children, who, with her husband, survive her. She was a member of the Christian Science Society. The body was brought to this city to the Sattler Funeral Home to await funeral services.
