Bruce Eugene GOWEY, 79, of Fairfield, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield. Open visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Mr. GOWEY was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Richland, the son of Merrill and Anna GOWEY. He married Doris BAGBY Oct. 25, 1953, at Christian Parsonage in Fairfield. Mr. GOWEY graduated from Pleasant Plain High School. He and his wife lived around Pleasant Plain and Fairfield while married. He was an area farmer, carpenter and truck driver, and he worked at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. Mr. GOWEY was a lifetime member of Pleasant Plain Friends Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Fairfield VFW Post 2271. Survivors include his wife; one sister, Marie MAYER of Alabama; three daughters, Shirley SMITH and husband Dennis, Colleen SMITH and husband Harold, all of Fairfield, and Deb HANEY and husband Dean of Libertyville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herman (Herman Gowey).
