Description	:	U. S. Navy WWll Bruce M. Smythe, age 82, of Jewett, formerly of Orrville, died suddenly Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at his home. Born Oct. 4, 1925, in Archer Township of Harrison County, he was a son of the late Parks and Viola Berlin Smythe. A Navy veteran of World War II, Bruce worked as an OTR truck driver for various companies after the war. After retiring he and his wife,... Read More	U. S. Navy WWll Bruce M. Smythe, age 82, of Jewett, formerly of Orrville, died suddenly Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at his home. Born Oct. 4, 1925, in Archer Township of Harrison County, he was a son of the late Parks and Viola Berlin Smythe. A Navy veteran of World War II, Bruce worked as an OTR truck driver for various companies after the war. He also worked for many years at Conrail where he was affectionately known as ôDoc Hookö by his fellow employees. He retired from Conrail in 1990 as a track supervisor. After retiring he and his wife, Patricia, moved to Jewett where he worked on small engines. He was also a member of Scio American Legion Post 482. Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Smythe, just three weeks ago on March 5, 2008. They married Oct. 22, 1949. A brother, Bill Smythe, and a sister, Jean Smythe, also preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Lynda (Lee) Dannemiller and Kenny (Sue) Smythe, both of Orrville, Jean Swinehart of Navarre, Ann Dodds of Cadiz, Carol (Craig) Cayhoe of Wooster and DeeDee Boggs of Cadiz; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Koch Funeral Home at Scio with Rev. Hester Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Gardens at Jewett. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
