Description	:	Caroline first appears in the 1850 census, Wilkes, NC, age 12, with her parents Jacob & Sarah Hall Absher; along with her other siblings. Caroline is their first daughter born about 1838. In the 1860 census record; Caroline age 16; still lives at home but her birth date has changed to 1844; a six year difference. Birth dates are often incorrect in the census records. In the 1860 census record; Caroline age 16; still lives at home but her birth date has changed to 1844; a six year difference. Birth dates are often incorrect in the census records. The 1870 census record has Caroline Absher, age 18, living in Jacob & Sarah Hall Absher's household, but also has Caroline age 22, living beside Jacob & Sarah married to Jacob Hayes along with her first born "James Hayes" age 7 months. The 1870 census record is the only census in which Jacob Hayes appears with Caroline. The two 1870 census records made it somewhat confusing to decide if this was the same Caroline Absher. It was determined that this is the same "Caroline". James Hayes age 11; is again with Caroline age 28; in the next census record of 1880 along with his 4 brothers. Caroline's birth date has again changed; to about 1852. Caroline and her sons are living next door to her brother Lewis McDaniel & Martha Billings Absher & their young son, "Coy", 5 months of age. Jacob & Sarah Hall Absher are living next door to Dan & Martha. So, all three families are living next door to one another. By the 1900 census Caroline Absher Hayes age 54 birth date stated to be Dec 1845, is living with her son William as head of household and her other son Elihue Hayes. Caroline still lives beside her brother Lewis McDaniel & Martha Billings Absher and their growing family. Jacob & Sarah have sadly passed. It is stated on the 1900 census record that Caroline is divorced and the mother of 2 children, which is incorrect in the record. Caroline had 5 sons. In the 1910 census, Caroline lives a short distance from her brother Lewis McDaniel & Martha Billings Absher as well as other family members on Cane Creek Rd. She is living with her son Elihue Hayes as head of household. Caroline is recorded to be 60 years of age with an estimated birth year of 1850. The 1910 census, records her to have had 5 children 4 living. James Hayes her eldest has passed. The 1920 census record shows that Caroline is still living with Elihue and his family. Elihue is married to Ella Diana Walker Absher. They have a daughter "Flossie". The 1920 census shows that Caroline and her family are living again next door to her brother Lewis McDaniel & Martha Billings Absher and his family on Mulberry Rd. There are no further census records for Caroline Absher Hayes. The census record for 1920 was recorded on the 15th & 16th day of January 1920. By 1930 Elihue Hayes and his family have moved to Hays & Absher Road, Wilkes County, NC. No other records for Caroline Absher Hayes have been located. No death Certificate has been located for Caroline. NOTE: In 1994 after the cemetery was cleared and cleaned off, the older people in the community reported to Jim Absher where Caroline's grave was in the Absher Family Cemetery and the grave marker with approximate dates was placed where she was said to be interred.
