Read More	Obituary The Hooper Sentinel November 29, 1928 Pioneer Settler Called By Death Last Thursday Casper Hoegemeyer, one of the pioneer settlers of this community, passed away at 10:25 Thursday morning, November 22, 1928, at his farm home 3« miles northwest of Hooper. Death followed an eight months illness from kidney and heart trouble, and though his health failed rapidly during this time, yet Mr. Hoegemeyer kept up his courage and tried to be up and around as usual every day until his strength failed him, and the sleep that knows no awakening finally came to him. His death removes from this community a man highly respected by his fellowmen, one, who as a pioneer staked his all on the future of this country and eventually saw his faith in the country rewarded through hard work with a number of fine and properties. As a pioneer he suffered and endured the trials of the early days, but his faith never faltered and he proved himself to be one the successful farmers of the locality. He was an active man up to his last, and always took a particular interest in matters that were for the betterment of the community. Mr. Hoegemeyer had attained the age of 79 years and eight months, having been born on March 22, 1849, in Germany. In 1869 when a young man of 20 years he came to the United States, coming west by rail to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and then by boat to Washington county where he worked as a farm hand for a couple of years. In 1871 he took up a homestead in Dodge county later buying the farm northwest of Hooper and since had been a resident of the county. On July 11, 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Stork. To this union eight children were born, a son, Henry, dieing in infancy. The living children are William of Scribner, August and Mrs. Henry Heitshusen of Lyons, Casper of Dodge, Christ, Mrs. Emil P. Miller and George of Hooper. Mrs. Hoegemeyer died September 6, 1914, and since then Mr. Hoegemeyer has made his home with his son, George. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, with services at 12:30 at the late home and at one o'clock from the St. Johns Lutheran church of which the deceased was an active member. The Pastor, Rev. Theo. Norden, spoke the words of comfort to the sorrowing relatives and to the large gathering of neighbors and friends who filled the church to overflowing to pay their last tribute to the memory of one who had always held their utmost esteem. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
