McCoy, on Aug. 28, 1853 in Berrien Co. MI (when Catherine was about age 16). William was born in Giles Co. Virginia, in 1825, the son of George H. McCoy and his wife Martha "Patsey" A. Kirk. --- Note: William A. McCoy was the brother of Russell McCoy of Buchanan, Berrien Co. MI (see his memorial). ----------------------------------- William came to Michigan with his parents in 1832. William A. McCoy died Feb. 25, 1895 in Buchanan, Berrien Co. Michigan, at the age of 70. His obituary was published in the "Buchanan Record" newspaper, in Buchanan, Michigan on Feb. 28, 1895, page 3. William's burial site is unknown. ------------------------------------ Note: William's brother Russell McCoy married Esther Weaver in 1839 and they had eleven children. Catherine and William A. McCoy lived N.W. of Buchanan, Berrien Co. Michigan. -------------------------------------- "The History of Berrien and Van Buren Counties, Michigan", page 175, states: About 1856 William McCoy with his brother Russell McCoy and David Weaver [Catherie's brother], bought 200 acres on the bank of Clear Lake [in Section 29 of Buchanan Twp.], and built a steam saw mill. ------------------------------------- Catherine Weaver and William A. McCoy had three children: (per William's obituary) ----- 1. Angeline ("Angel") A. McCoy b. Dec. of 1855 in Michigan m. Nov. of 1876 in Berrien Co. MI to Mortimer C. Michael, the son of Belamus Hayden Michael (known as "Hayden" Sr.), and Elmira Webster. Angeline and Hayden lived on a farm two miles South of Berrien Center. Angeline and Mortimer Michael had a son, Hayden M. Michael [Jr.]. (Mortimer died on Sept. 10, 1929). d. Angeline died on Nov. 26, 1929 at the home of her son Hayden, on Cass St. in Berrien Springs, MI. Buried: Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs, Michigan at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 1 day, (2nd Section, N.W. Side, Lot # 147). The obituary for Angeline was published in the "Berrien Springs Era" newspaper in Berrien Springs, Michigan on Nov. 28, 1929, page 1, and in the "Niles Daily Star" newspaper in Niles, Michign on Nov. 26, 1929, page 4. The obituary for Mortimer was published in the "Berrien Springs Era" newspaper on Sept. 12, 1929, page 1, and in the "Berrien Springs Era" newspaper on Nov. 28, 1929, page 1. ------------------------------------- 2. Laura L. McCoy. b. Dec. 24, 1857 in Buchanan, Berrien Co. MI. The 1860 census (one year after the death of Laura's mother), when Laura was 3 years old, shows Laura being raised by her mother's Aunt, Anna Colvin (Catherine's Aunt), and Anna's 3rd husband Wilkinson Colvin. m. 1873 in Michigan to Rowan Haggerty, the son of Thomas Haggerty and Nancy Heaton. Children: Harry and Clayton R. Haggerty, both born in Bremen, Elkhart Co. IN. (Rowan died on Oct. 10, 1879, of consumption, per notice in the "Berrien County Record" newspaper on Oct. 23, 1879, page 3). In the 1880 census of Buchanan, MI Laura, age 23, is listed as a widow. In the 1900 to 1920 census' Laura (a widow), is living, along with her son Clayton, in Chicago, Cook County Illinois. d. Nov. 17, 1927 in Chicago, Cook Co. IL., of "Chronic myocarditis", at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 24 days. Occupation: Rooming house. Note: The "informant" on Laura's death certificate was her nephew, Hayden Michael [Jr.] of Berrien Springs, MI. An obituary for "Mrs. Laura Hagerty" was published in the "Berrien Springs Era" newspaper, in Berrien Springs, MI on Nov. 24, 1927, pages 1 and 2. Another obituary for "Laura L. Hagerty" was published in the "Niles Daily Star" newspaper, in Niles, MI, on Nov. 25, 1927, page 1. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, MI, in Section 17, Lot 14, with Rowen Haggerty (1841-1879), and Clayton Haggerty (1876-1926). ----------------------------------- 3.
