Owen, 70, retired California banker who began his career as a messenger boy for a Bismarck bank, died Sunday, September 22, 1968 in a San Rafael, CA hospital after a brief illness. At the time of his retirement in1958 he was vice president and real estate loan department manager of the First National Bank and the Bank of San Rafael at San Rafael. He also owned a motel there. Owen, 70, retired California banker who began his career as a messenger boy for a Bismarck bank, died Sunday, September 22, 1968 in a San Rafael, CA hospital after a brief illness. At the time of his retirement in1958 he was vice president and real estate loan department manager of the First National Bank and the Bank of San Rafael at San Rafael. He also owned a motel there. He was born in North Dakota and worked as messenger boy for the City National Bank here in 1916. In 1923, he joined the Bank of Sausalito, Sausalito, CA, which later became an American Trust Co. office, serving as assistant cashier and manager of both the Sausalito and Belvedere branches. He joined the First National Bank in San Rafael in 1938, organizing the business development department. In 1946 he was appointed vice president, cashier and director of the Bank of Beaumont, rejoining the San Rafael Bank as vice president a year later. He and his wife Gertrude Owen, moved to Sonoma, CA, a year ago. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters; Mrs. Elmer Curry and Mer. Elinor Mobley; and a son Charles D. Owen Jr., all of San Rafael; 2 sisters, Mrs. Claire Callais and Mrs. Bess Marion, both of Sausalito; a brother, Harold E. Owen of Novato, CA, and 14 grandchildren. Requiem mass was celebrated Wednesday, September 25, at St. Rafael's Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
