Description	:	Charles Edwin Painter was the first child of Martha (née Cable) and Edwin Painter, born on 8 October 1862 in Richland County, Ohio; probably in Perry Township, where his grandfather Hamilton Painter owned a farm. Edwin Painter had re-enlisted as a private on 22 August 1862, and was in a regiment then pursuing Confederate forces in Kentucky when Charles was born. Charles Painter and Ada Bloomer, both residing in New Point, Holt County, were married on 30 April 1885 at her parents' home in New Point. The groom was age 23; the bride 14 years and 11 months. The ceremony was a double wedding: Minnie Ruhl (Charles's first cousin) married Oscar Bloomer (Ada's first cousin).* Charles and Ada Painter became the parents of six children (two died in infancy). Ada died from influenza in 1896. Charles E. Painter and Florence V. Kingery were married on 4 September 1897 in Oregon, Holt County. The groom was a resident of Forest City in the county; the bride a resident of Skidmore, in neighboring Nodaway County, Missouri. (This marriage was without issue.) In the 1890s, Charles E. Painter was in the general merchandise business (as Feltensteen & Painter; later with his father-in-law); had a land office, and was a notary public in New Point; and in 1897 was a druggist in nearby Forest City. (He was also a clerk for a Modern Woodmen of America camp in New Point.) By 1900, he was an implements dealer in Skidmore. Charles E. and Florence V. Painter moved by 1909 to Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, where for a time he operated the Painter Stock Remedy Company. Notes Middle name, Edwin, reported on daughter Ethel Painter Aldrich's Utah death certificate. Informant was her brother Lester Painter.
