Wortz, a well known and long time resident of Malvern and vicinity, died Monday, April 22, in Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, after a brief illness. Wortz, a well known and long time resident of Malvern and vicinity, died Monday, April 22, in Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, after a brief illness. He failed to rally and passed away the following day. Charles Gibson Wortz was born in Selin's Grove, Pennsylvania, July 21, 1855 and died April 22, 1935. He was the son of Rev. and Mrs. David C. Wortz, early pioneers in the Methodist Ministry. He came with his parents to Iowa when about 6 years of age and to Malvern in 1894, when his father became pastor of the Malvern Methodist Episcopal Church. HIs mother died in 1895 and his father the following year. When a boy he was baptized and united with the Methodist Church and lived according to that faith. For several years after coming to Malvern he was engaged in construction work in various parts of the country, but in 1895 he returned to this vicinity and engaged in farming, an occupation he followed the grater part of his life. He was a good farmer and made a real success of his life's work. He was married in November 1923 to Miss Martha Dyson and they made their home on the Dyson farm south of Malvern until four years ago when they moved into malvern which since been their home. He is survived by his loving wife, four sisters, Mrs. C. S. Thompson of Acroyo Grande, California, Mary E. Wortz of Delta, Colorado, Mrs. George A. Hill and Miss Maude B. Wortz of Denver and one brother Roy R. Wortz, of Sacramento, California. Mr. Wortz was a man of rugged individuality and a personality that won him friends wherever he lived. Strictly honest in all his dealings, he was a good neighbor, a kind husband and bother, and a sincere friend. His smile and cherry greetings will long be remembered.
