Mrs. Christena Kriese, aged 86 years, one of the older residents of Hedrick and mother of Phillip Kriese and Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, local persons, died last Thursday evening at 7:45 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marion Craft, in Hedrick, where she had made her home for a number of years. She had been ill for the past seven weeks but was able to be out of bed the day before her death. However, she suffered a heart attack on Thursday morning which proved fatal that evening. At her bedside when she died were her six children, two daughters, Ethel and Louise, having arrived only 15 minutes before death came after taking a plane from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Des Moines and being forced to continue their journey by bus because of bad weather. Mrs. Kriese was born northwest of Hedrick on May 23, 1855 and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Allman. She was married to John L. Kriese in February 1878 and started housekeeping on a farm near Hedrick where they remained until 49 years ago when they moved to Hedrick. Mr. Kriese died there on May 21, 1894. Mrs. Kriese was a lifelong member of the Christian Church and was a charter member of the Hedrick Church where she was a regular attendant as long as her health permitted. Despite her advanced age, her memory was good and she knew the age and birthday of every grandchild. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones of Sigourney, Mrs. Marion Craft of Hedrick, Miss Louise and Miss Ethel Kriese of Saint Paul, Minnesota; two sons, Phillip of Sigourney and Virdon of Delta and two stepsons, George Kriese of Saint Paul, Minnesota and Edward Kriese of Lacomb, Alberta, Canada. Also living are 28 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one brother, George Allman of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. The funeral service was held at the Hedrick Christian Church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Hugh Guy, pastor of the church and the Rev. L.G. Potter, pastor of the local Christian Church. Burial was made in the Abel Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Kriese, with Harold Jones and Merle Kriese as honorary bearers and Carl Craft, A.G. Craft, Ralph Kriese, Robert Kriese, Ilo Kriese and Wendell Kriese, active.
