Christian Dennis passed away Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock. He had been in an enfeebled condition for four years, owing to a stroke of paralysis, and in his last illness was a great sufferer. He died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Marshall, his son-in-law and daughter, who have kindly cared for him for over twenty years. Mr. Dennis was born in Washington County, Pa., July 11, 1823. Being in his 91st year he was among the oldest citizens of the county. When he was quite young his parents traveled in an emigrant wagon to Jefferson County, with their big family, one of the children dying on the way. They settled in Jefferson County. Of this family there still living two brothers, John at Bergholz and Samuel at Wooster, and two sisters, Mrs. Close at Salineville and Mrs. Barnhill at Monroeville. None of these are younger than 80 years. After his marriage he located in Washington Twp., where he followed farming. His wife has been dead 40 years. His surviving children are Mrs. Jesse Marshall of Carrollton, Mrs. Marks of Goshen, Indiana and W. T. Dennis of Alliance. Mr. Dennis was a member of the U. B. Church but during his residence here he affiliated with the M. E. Church. He was a well informed man whose judgement of men and affairs was worth seeking. His body will be laid to rest Friday in West Union Cemetery, near Moretown. His funeral sermon will be preached by Rev. H. M. Rader.
