Deceased was born in Canton, Berne, Switzerland, in the year 1799. He was married in 1822 to Miss Magdalena Wieland, moved to America in 1832 and settled in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, where he lived for about 19 years. Read More	Then from the Kansas Herald, Jan. 12, 1883 ZIMMERMAN - Died Saturday morning, January 6, 1883, near Hiawatha of complication of acute diseases together with old age, Christian Zimmerman, aged 83 years, 1 month, and 12 days. Deceased was born in Canton, Berne, Switzerland, in the year 1799. He was married in 1822 to Miss Magdalena Wieland, moved to America in 1832 and settled in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, where he lived for about 19 years. He moved to Andrew County, Mo. in 1851; in 1855 he removed to Brown County, Ks where he lived the remainder of his long life. He was the father of 3 sons, Chris Zimmerman Jr., Rudolph Zimmerman, & John Zimmerman, and 3 daughters, Magdalene, wife of John S. Zimmerman, Anna, wife of Daniel Zimmerman; and Kate, wife of Fred Zimmerman, neither one of whom changed their names in marriage. Up to his death there were 32 of his grandchildren living, and 23 great-grandchildren. He had been a member of the Reformed Church nearly all his life. Rev. Schnacke, pastor of the Reformed Church, preached the funeral discourse from his pulpit last Monday, and notwithstanding the very severe cold weather there were 22 vehicles in the procession of friends who followed the remains to the relief and comfort of their father and grandfather in his last hours of life, and sympathized with relatives in the burial.
