Vorderstrasse and Sena M. Hofts, was born on January 28, 1915 at rural Stoddard, NE. He passed away on April 6, 1997 in Chester, at the age of 82 years. Clarence was baptized on February 14, 1915, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stoddard, NE, by Rev. Nesekwitz. He attended school at District 67 where he completed the eighth grade. Clarence confirmed his faith on March 24, 1929 in the same church by Rev. Lassen. Clarence was united in marriage to Verleen Gehle at St. Paul Lutheran Church on September 16, 1946. This union was blessed with three children. Clarence was a life time member of St. Pauls until the congregation dissolved, at which time he became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron in 1966. He served on the council in both congregations. Clarence's love for his family and tilling the soil kept him active in the farming operation until the fall of 1996. He farmed in the Stoddard area all his life where, along with his spouse, they raised their family. In the fall of 1989 they moved to Chester. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sena; brothers, John, Arthur, and Lawrence; sisters Ida Vorderstrase, Anna Holtzen, and Marie Fintel; great-granddaughter, MaKayla Jurgens; four brothers and sisters-in-law, and four nieces and nephews. Clarence is survived by his wife, Verleen; son, James and wife Karen, rural Hebron; daughters, Bobbi Koss and husband Greg, Madison, NE, and Cindy Mesloh and husband Mark, rural Hebron; two brothers, Alvin and wife Lydia, Chester, and William, Enid, Oklahoma; two sisters, Elsie Pohlmann, Deshler and Esther Meyer, rural Hebron, and one sister-in-law, Erma Gausman, Dorchester; grandchildren, Tricia, Traci, Tyson and Tara Vorderstrasse, Andy and Jeff Koss, Sheila Jurgens, Sena, Anna and Emma Mesloh; step-grandchildren Kiley and Aaron Mesloh, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held on Wednesday, April 9, 1997, 1:00 p.m. from the Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron, NE, with Pastor Bruce W. Berggren officiating. Music was "I Heard the Voice," "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "Borning Cry" sung by the congregation. Brenda Striggow was the organist. Pallbearers were Marvin Monter, Duane Vorderstrasse, Mylan Gehle, Rob Kuhlmann, Patch Davenport and Gerald Meyer. Interment was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Stoddard, NE.
