Description	:	Arthur Henry Fredrick Vorderstrasse, second oldest son of William Vorderstrasse and Sena Hofts (sic) Vorderstrasse, was born in Thayer County, near Ruskin, Nebr., on June 22, 1901. He passed away at his home in Chester, Nebr., on Wednesday evening, Sept. 5, 1973, at the age of 72 years, two months and 14 days. He attended a rural school at Ruskin and Stoddard, Nebr. On May 1, 1930, he was united in marriage to Anna Matilda Harmes at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Deshler by Rev. Lewis Jagels. To this union four daughters were born. He was engaged in farming near Stoddard and Chester areas. They moved to their present home in Chester in 1946, continuing his work until the past several years. He attended church at St. Paul's Lutheran near Stoddard where he served as trustee and deacon, transferring his membership to St. John Lutheran at Chester in 1952, where he also served as trustee and was a member of the Lutheran Layman's League. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lawrence and John. He is survived by his wife, Tillie; daughters, Lorene, Mrs. Raymond Jagels, of Detroit, Mich., Betty, Mrs. Alvin Poppe, of Chester, Marilyn, Mrs. Elwin Schroeder, of Utica, Mich., Elaine, Mrs. Marvin Monter, of Arapahoe; brothers, Alvin of Chester, Clarence of Hebron, and William of Enid, Okla.; sisters, Elsie, Mrs. Otto Pohlmann of Deshler, Ida of Chester, Anna, Mrs. Emil Holtzen, of Enid, Okla., Marie, Mrs. Art Fintel, of College Place, Wash., Esther, Mrs. Alvin Meyer, of Hebron; 14 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m., with Pastor John Freitag officiating. Mrs. Reuben Schleifer, Mrs. Egbert Tietjen, Mrs. Arno Sell and Mrs. John Freitag sang "Beautiful Savior" with Diane Dittbrenner as organist. Pallbearers were James Vorderstrasse, Duane Vorderstrasse, Kenneth Holtzen, Dean Meyer, Harry Holmes and Marvin Harmes. Interment was in the Chester Cemetery, Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
