Five days after his birth, he was received into the Kingdom of Christ by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in the Ev. Luth. At the age of sixteen, he came to America and located in Jefferson County, Nebr. where he found work as a farm-hand. Later, in the spring of 1894, he went west to Thayer County, doing the same work. On the 20th of April, 1899, he entered Holy wedlock with Sena M. Hoefts in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, northwest of Deshler, the Rev. H.H. Dagefoerde officiating. This union was blessed with eleven children. The first twelve years of his married life were spent on a farm near Ruskin. March, 1911, he moved to his present home near Stoddard, changing his membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Stoddard and always showed an active interest and most faithfully supported its work. He enjoyed robust health until about a year before his death. A severe heart ailment and other complications caused him to pass away peacefully on the morning of Dec. 4th, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 17 days. He is survived by his beloved wife and eleven children. John, Stoddard; Arthur, Alvin and Mrs. Esther Meyer of Chester; Mrs. Elsie Pohlmann of Deshler; Mrs. Anna Holtzen and William, Jr. of Enid, Okla.; Mrs. Marie Fintel of Hermiston, Oregon; and seventeen grand children; three brothers, Carl of Hebron; Casper of Plymouth and Fred of Fairbury; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Sagehorn of Bertha, Minn., Mrs. Mary Brettmann of Deshler, Mrs. Louisa Fangmeyer and Mrs. Hannah Grafelmann of Hebron. A brother, Henry and a sister, Mrs. Emma Brettmann preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on last Saturday afternoon from the home and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. John Vollstedt officiating. Frieda Vienou, Mrs. John Harlow and Mrs. Herman Pohlmann sang. Interment was made in the Church Cemetery.
