He moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1893 and operated a bakery in that community from 1898 to 1908. Bell, 90 December 18, 1870 ~ May 27, 1961 Clarence was born Dec. 18, 1870 in Clarence, Iowa. He moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1893 and operated a bakery in that community from 1898 to 1908. He moved to Huron, South Dakota from Missouri Valley and on Sept. 30, 1908 started the Bell Bakery in partnership with Peter Christensen. In 1920 Christensen sold his interest and E. G. Schmidt purchased a half interest in the company. In 1931 Mr. Bell sold his interest to Schmidt and semi-retired from business, devoting his time to looking after his city and farm property holdings. Member of Masons He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Rotary Club and Elks Club and several Masonic orders, including Huron Lodge AF&AM, Huron Council Royal Select Master Masons, Knights Templar, and El Riad Shine, also the Order of Eastern Star. He was married to Matilda Strohbehn April 4, 1900. C.H. Bell, 90, died May 27, 1961 in St. John's Hospital, Huron, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his wife, July 25, 1960, and two sisters. There are no immediate surviving relatives. A nephew of Mrs. Bell, Harlan Heath and Mrs. Heath of Missouri Valley, are in Huron helping with funeral arrangements. Civic Leader Mr. Bell was prominent in Huron civic affairs and was active in promoting the old Yellowstone Trail, U. S. Highway 14 and State Highway 37. He was a member of the Beadle County War Price and Rationing Board and the city zoning board. He was a member of the board of trustees and treasurer of the Presbyterian Church for 18 years, a member of Rotary Club and a trustee of the Huron Elks lodge. On March 8, 1946 he was recipient of the Huron Chamber of Commerce's distinguished award in recognition of his 37 years of civic service. Bell moved recently to the Marvin Hughitt Hotel from the former family home at 509 Fourth St. S. W. Clarence H. Bell, prominent retired Huron, South Dakota businessman, died in St. John's Hospital Saturday at the age of 90. Funeral services will be held at the Welter Funeral Home chapel in Huron Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Garden Cemetery, Missouri Valley, Ia.
