Cutler, a former well known resident of this city [Philipsburg], died at his home in Deer Lodge on Thursday, January 13, of heart failure. He was among the best mill men in the state. For eight years he had charge of the Cable mill and later was batteryman at the BiMetallic mill until that plant suspended operations. Clark Lewis Culter was born in Fond du Lac, Wis., in 1851. He came west at the age of 14 years, and located in Ogden, Utah. Here he engaged in freighting for 13 years, then went to Kansas, where shortly after he was married. The following spring he came to Butte and resided there three or four years, later moving to Anaconda, then to Cable where he had charge of the Cable mill for eight years. He then came to Philipsburg and was employed as battery feeder in the BiMetallic mill for a number of years. From here he again moved to Anaconda, then to Deer Lodge when the Milwaukee railroad was built through there, and accepted a position in the railroad shops. Mr. Cutler is survived by his widow [Annie Matthews Cutler] and eleven children, two brothers and one sister. Mrs. B.L. Pickett [Bessie Olive Cutler, wife of Barney L. Pickett] of this city [Philipsburg] is a daughter. The funeral took place from the family residence in Deer Lodge, internment being made in Deer Lodge cemetery. All the listed children were born in Montana except Mabel, who was born in Kansas. A marriage record for a Lily Cutler indicates Charles and Annie had a daughter who was born in 1883 and married in 1899, therefore she never appeared in a census with the family. She married Roy A. Charles in Anaconda, MT ------------- Clark Lewis Cutler died intestate. His wife (Annie Facer, formerly Annie Cutler) remarried prior to the settlement of his estate and moved to Missoula. She requested her son, Ira, be designated the administrator of the estate and this was granted July 27, 1920. The children named in the probate papers are Ira Cutler, Roy Cutler, Leonard Cutler, George Cutler, Harold Cutler, Lottie Cutler, Lily (Cutler) Charles, Oliver Cutler, and Bessie (Cutler) Pickett.
