Bierly, 76, died at the Hiawatha Community hospital at 4:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, December 25, 1958, after an illness of only a few hours following a cerebral hemmorage. He was taken to the hospital early Thursday morning. Mr. Bierly had been a farmer and for many years was engaged as a harness maker, canvs[sic] and leather repairman. Funeral services will be held from the Evangelical United Brethren church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, December 28, by the Rev. Howard E. Tubach with interment at the Mt. Hope cemetery. Bierly, son of Harvey N. and Mary Ann Bierly, was born April 24, 1882, at Greenburr [sic], Penn., and passed away December 25, 1958 at the age of 76 years, eight months and one day. At nine years of age he came to Kansas with his parents where he grew to manhood. In 1904 he was united in marriage to Janie L. Brown. To this union was born two sons, Kenneth Clayre and Carol Eugene. Mrs. Bierly spent the first years of his married life in Denver, Colo., where his wife and youngest son passed away. On February 18, 1912, he was united in marriage to Emily S. Martin. To this union was born three children, Elizabeth, Evelyn and Clyde, Jr. In 1915 he moved to a farm southeast of Hiawatha where he was engaged in farming until 1936. After moving to Hiawatha he opened a canvas and leather repair shop which he operated until his death. Mr. Bierly is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Bierly of the home; his children, Kenneth Clayre Bierly of Lincoln, Calif., Mrs. D. W. Hopper of Rio Linda, Calif., Mrs. Evelyn Adams of Omaha and Clyde Bierly, Jr., of Omaha; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church and had been a member of the IOOF lodge for 53 years. He was a loving father and will be greatly missed by a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Evangelical United Brethren church Sunday afternoon, December 28, by the Rev. Howard E. Tubach. Mrs. Delbert Scarbrough and Earl Ireland, accompanied by Miss Hazel Gildhouse, sang, "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "In the Garden." Body bearers were Orville Montague, Knowlton Moore, Harry Piveral, John Klinefelter, Joe Meador and Edwin Adcock. Assisting with the flowers were Mrs. Rose Winter and Mrs. Cy Helphingstine. Interment was at the Mt. Hope cemetery where graveside services were conducted by the Hiawatha IOOF lodge. —The Hiawatha Daily World (Hiawatha, KS) Thur. Jan 8, 1959, p.2.
