Description	:	Dana A. "Herb" Mauslein, 76, of Hiawatha, died Thursday evening, April 19, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, surrounded by his family. Herb was born November 28, 1935, at Hiawatha, one of two children of Dana Charles "Bud" and Lois Turner Mauslein and was a lifelong Hiawatha resident. He attended schools in Hiawatha, graduating from Hiawatha High School and served in the Kansas Air National Guard. Herb was born November 28, 1935, at Hiawatha, one of two children of Dana Charles "Bud" and Lois Turner Mauslein and was a lifelong Hiawatha resident. He attended schools in Hiawatha, graduating from Hiawatha High School and served in the Kansas Air National Guard. From 1955 until 2005, Herb owned and operated Mauslein Excavating and took great pride in his work. Being considered an avid bowler doesn't describe Herb—he traveled all over participating in state and national bowling tournaments. Herb was an excellent provider for his family when they were growing up. He enjoyed following NASCAR racing. He never said no to anyone and was slow to anger. Herb coached Junior League Baseball in Hiawatha for 25 years. He married the love of his life Sharon K. Griffith, December 28, 1961, at Hiawatha. They coached the "Blue Angels", ladies softball for a few years. Sharon walked a lot and would pick up aluminum cans for Herb to smash. She preceded him in death April 11, 2012. Also surviving are their children: Biff (Barb) Mauslein of Hiawatha, Tori (Jimi) Hendricks of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Jacob (Stephanie) Mauslein of Manhattan, and Dane Mauslein of Norton, KS; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces. Herb was also preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Donna Sue Mauslein. It was his wish to be cremated with no services planned at this time. A register book will be available at the funeral home. An informal gathering of family and friends will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 (not this Saturday, next Saturday), at the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha, KS 66434, who is in charge of arrangements.
