Description	:	David Johnson was born January 9, 1829, died August 16, 1905. Deceased was married to Margaret Warriner in the year 1848. To this union was born ten children, three of whom survive: Johnie Johnson of Graham, Missouri, Mrs.Henry Peugh of Salem, and Mrs. Nancy Hopkins of Sulphur, Oregon. Five daughters and two sons preceded their father to the grave. One son was killed by a streetcar in Indianapolis and the other was murdered at the Blue River Friend's church several years ago. David Johnson has been a serviceable man in his neighborhood. Honesty and industry were two character factors that were firmly pressed upon his life work. He was born near where he died, and has passed his many years within this vicinity. His home life, plain and simple by choice, was ever pleasant. The devotion of husband and wife to each other was an exemplary one. David was one of the country's makers. It was he, with others who lived with him, that hewed out of the wild forest jungles the broad acres of fertile soil we are so proud today to call our home. It was he, with others who bore us safely o'er the Mexican and Civil wars. He was not a soldier in the battle field, but he was a soldier in the fields of grain; producing substance for those who fought at the front, and for one who fought at home to provide for the boys in Blue, as well as to provide for mother and sisters, while brothers were at the front we feel like calling a soldier. Deceased was not a member of any church though his choice seemed to be with the Regular Baptist. Elder W. S. Applegate conducted funeral services at the home after which the body was laid to rest in the Gater cemetery.
