Description	:	SHELTON-David Shelton was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, Oct. 17, 1830, and died at his home in Hiawatha, Tuesday evening, April 6, at 7 o'clock, after a lingering illness. He came to Brown County in 1853 and later went to Jasper County, Mo., where he was married to Joanna Laws Hayward. Five children were born to them, three sons and two daughters. One son and one daughter are dead. They moved back to Kansas in 1860 and have resided here ever since. Read More	SHELTON-David Shelton was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, Oct. 17, 1830, and died at his home in Hiawatha, Tuesday evening, April 6, at 7 o'clock, after a lingering illness. He came to Brown County in 1853 and later went to Jasper County, Mo., where he was married to Joanna Laws Hayward. Five children were born to them, three sons and two daughters. One son and one daughter are dead. They moved back to Kansas in 1860 and have resided here ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Shelton were members of the Christian Church 41 years, having united with the church at Padonia under E. C. Burrows in 1864. Afterwards a church was organized at the district school house No. 2 where they joined and later on when a church was built at Hamlin, they united with it. Mr. and Mrs. Shelton moved from Hamlin to Hiawatha in 1901 where they united with the Hiawatha church. He leaves a wife, two sons, Herman Shelton of Hiawatha, Ernest Shelton, of Morrill, one daughter, Mrs. Fred Meyers of Omaha and a sister, Mrs. Mary Meyers of near Portland, Ore. The funeral was held at the Christian Church Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial was made in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
