I Spence, 57, head, laborer railroad Alice E Spence, 49, wife Wayne W Spence, 11, son Donald K Spence, 7, son In 1934, his father was killed in a railroad accident, and Donald went to live with his aunt and uncle in Magnolia, Iowa. From at least 1935 to 1940, Donald, his aunt and uncle and cousins, all lived in the same house in Magnolia, Iowa. The 1940 US Census shows: J.L. Field, 52, head, owner/operator grocery store Ruby Field, 45, wife Dwayne Field, 20, son, grocery clerk June Field, 18, daughter Beth Field, 12, daughter Donald Spence,17, nephew (had completed 3 years of HS) Donald enlisted in the Army July 12, 1943, while living at 202 North Lynn St. in Independence, Missouri, and on August 2, 1943 was training at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He left for foreign service July 26, 1944 and was part of the 96th Division, 120th Replacement Battalion. He returned from overseas on December 1, 1945, and was honorably discharged December 9, 1945. He applied for his WWII Bonus while living in Sonoma County, California. He married Alice Irene Athey, and she applied for her first Social Security card in Missouri. Later, they both lived in California for a number of years, until they passed away. His last residence was in Concord, California. His wife, Alice, sadly died in Concord, where they had been residing. She passed away in 2001, and was buried in Missouri Valley, Iowa, where she had been born.
