Description	:	Donald Odell Burroughs was born on 15 Apr 1904 on the family farm, in Cloud Co., south of Concordia, KS. His parents were James W. "Jim" and Mary Leota Chronister Burroughs. Donald had five siblings: Reginald, Lloyd, Wanda, Nola Dale and Dallas. He attended New Hope School, about one-half mile east of the family farm. Read More	Donald Odell Burroughs was born on 15 Apr 1904 on the family farm, in Cloud Co., south of Concordia, KS. His parents were James W. "Jim" and Mary Leota Chronister Burroughs. Donald had five siblings: Reginald, Lloyd, Wanda, Nola Dale and Dallas. He attended New Hope School, about one-half mile east of the family farm. At an early age, Donald was helping with the farm work. His family was very religious, and much of their social life revolved around New Hope School, and well as with the many relatives who lived in the area. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. When Donald was fifteen years old, his father died. In 1925, the family moved to a farm in Ottawa Co., KS. On 3 Apr 1930, he married Sylvia Headley. However, they only had six months together before she died. Donald cared for his mother and invalid brother for the next ll years. He married Dorothy C. Stanley on 21 June 1941. They had five children: Velma Mae - b. 1942; Judy A. - b. 1944 & d. 1964; Eldon J. - b. 1947; Donna R. - b 1948 & d. 1949 and Elda L. - b. 1953 & d. 1976. Donald and Dorothy moved to the Foose farm, northeast of Tescott, where they farmed until 1957. He was then employed by Berkley Brothers Farms until he retired in 1978. Donald died 19 Jan 1988, in Asbury Salina Regional Medical Center. He was buried in the Franklin Cemetery, in Tescott, beside his first wife and his three daughters who had preceded him in death. When Dorothy died on 13 Nov 2003, she was buried beside him.
