Friends and relatives crowded into the reception room at the Holiday Inn Sunday to honor Mr. and Mrs. Dorrance Locey of 1687 Carol Ave., who were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. "The event was hosted by the couple's daughter, Vikki Dodds of Chico, and goddaughters, Sue Jones of Sunnyvale and Marcia Baird of Healdsburg. Assisting with hostess duties were Betty Plummer, sister of Mrs. Locey, and Connie Miller, sister of Locey. They cut and served the cake. "The event was hosted by the couple's daughter, Vikki Dodds of Chico, and goddaughters, Sue Jones of Sunnyvale and Marcia Baird of Healdsburg. Assisting with hostess duties were Betty Plummer, sister of Mrs. Locey, and Connie Miller, sister of Locey. They cut and served the cake. Heather Dodds, a granddaughter, was in charge of the guest book. Mrs. Locey greeted guests in a floor length, mauve print gown and a white orchid corsage. "The Loceys were married April 7, 1928 in the Congregational Church of Oroville by the late Rev. W.J. Johnson. Helen Wood of Gridley was maid of honor and the late Carl Brouillard of Chico was best man. "After the marriage the couple made their home in Chico where Locey was employed by Levy-Zentner Produce Co. and Mrs. Locey continued her studies at Chico State University. "In 1931 Locey purchased the Durham Garage and the couple lived in Durham until 1943. In 1943 the Loceys bought an almond orchard east of Nelson, in an area known as ‘The Cherokee Strip,' Mrs. Locey commented. They lived there for 38 years. He grew almond, joined the California Almond Growers and became a well-known orchardist. He retired in 1974, selling the home and orchard and the couple moved back to Chico. "Mrs. Dodds and the two grandchildren, Heather and Darian Dodds of Tonea Way comprise their family. "Mrs. Locey is a Missouri native. The family came to Chico in 1923 and Mrs. Locey entered Chico High School as a freshman. Locey is a native son. He was born in a ranch house at the intersection of Second Avenue and The Esplanade. His grandfather farmed with Gen. John Bidwell, founder of Chico. "The golden weds have an anniversary trip plan. They will [unreadable] … Acapulco that will take them through the Panama Canal and back to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. "Durham, Nelson and Chico neighbors and friends were among the 150 guests to greet the celebrants. "Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Jones and son Michael of Sunnyvale, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and daughter of Tyler, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Baird of Santa Rosa, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Tozier of Visalia, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Harvey of Vallejo, Mr. and Mrs. Tye Cox of San Jose, Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Kelly of Fort Bragg, Mr. and Mrs. John Caywood of Oroville, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bowen of Sacramento, Mr. and Mr. N.P. Blackman of Magalia, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Baroes, Sally Locey, all of San Francisco, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitman, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Kelley, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Aurandt, Gladys Moak, all of Paradise, Dennis LaFoon of Carmel, and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas O'Conner of Lodi. "Among the guest was Mrs. Locey's 86-year-old mother, Rose LaFoon. This was her second daughter who celebrated 50 years of marriage. Marion and Billy Plummer of Chico celebrated their golden anniversary in 1975."
