Dryden, a former member of the Board of Supervisors and a prominent resident of Pottawattamie county, died suddenly at his home in this city, 621 Franklin avenue, at an early hour yesterday morning from heart failure. Mr. Dryden had been in failing health for some time, but he had not complained of being ill Monday. He was down town Monday and that evening worked about the house and yard as was his custom. About 5 o'clock yesterday morning Mrs. Dryden was awakened by the sound of her husband's heavy breathing and her efforts to rouse him wore futile. As speedily as possible medical aid was summoned, but Mr. Dryden died shortly after without becoming conscious. Deceased was 66 years of age and is survived by his wife, to whom he was married in Columbus, O., October 10, 1865; five daughters, Mrs. W. L. Morris, Mrs. G. L. Goodell, Miss Charlotte Dryden, Miss Gertrude Dryden and Miss Dee F. Dryden, and two sons, R. H. Dryden and C. P. Dryden. He also leaves two brothers, George B. Dryden of Farnam, Neb., and Cyrus P. Dryden of Chicago, and two sisters, Miss Ellen Fitch and Mrs. Harriet Knowlton of Berea, O. Arrangements for the funeral will not be made until absent members of the family reach the city. Mr. Dryden was born at Olmstead Falls, O., and enlisted in the first call for troops in 1861 and served three months and reenlisted in the Nineteenth Ohio battery, light artillery, and mustered out at the close of the war as corporal. He located on a farm in Hardin township, in this county, in 1870, and was one of the most progressive and industrious farmers and took an active part in all public questions affecting the general welfare and served as a member of the Board of Supervisors for three years and was renominated for a second term, but withdrew on account of failing health. He retired from the farm in November, 1904, and became a resident of this city. He took an active interest in local affairs and was a prominent member of Abe Lincoln post, Grand Army of the Republic. Omaha Daily Bee, December 5, 1908: Council Bluffs News - The funeral of the late Drury F. Dryden, held yesterday afternoon from the family residence on Franklin avenue, was attended by an immense gathering of the friends of the deceased and the bereaved family. Hundreds of farmers from Hardin township, in which Mr. Dryden lived for so many years, and vicinity were in attendance and the house was entirely inadequate to accommodate the large number. The services were conducted by Rev. James M. Williams, pastor of the Broadway Methodist church, assisted by Rev. George A. Ray, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church. Rev. James O'May of Creston, former pastor of the Broadway Methodist church, was unable to come here as planned. During the service Mrs. A. A. Covalt rendered two hymns. Burial was in Walnut Hill cemetery, the cortege to the cemetery being one of the longest seen in this city for many years. The pallbearers were: N. S. Alexander, Captain L. B. Cousin, W. M. Whitson, F. Davis, J. K. Cooper, and George Carson, members of Abe Lincoln post, Grand Army of the Republic, of which deceased was a prominent member. ---------------------------- married Gertrude C.
