Description	:	Edgar Butler (March 11, 1921 - January 19, 2011 ) Edgar Butler, 89, of Atchison, KS, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Ed was born March 11, 1921 in Ness City, Kansas the son of the late Edgar Waldo and Mary Ellen (Fuller) Butler. He graduated from Healy High School and became a U.S. Merchant Mariner, transporting cargo, passengers and members of the Navy. Ed was born March 11, 1921 in Ness City, Kansas the son of the late Edgar Waldo and Mary Ellen (Fuller) Butler. He graduated from Healy High School and became a U.S. Merchant Mariner, transporting cargo, passengers and members of the Navy. Ed then attended the Kansas City School of Pharmacy getting his Bachelor's Degree. Ed owned and operated the Butler Prescription Shop from 1953-1986. Ed served on the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy from 1979-1983. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Atchison Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge of Atchison #158, Abdullah Shrine and the Elks Lodge #647. Ed enjoyed listening to sports radio and loved anything that involved baseball. Ed married Elizabeth Ellen Gullikson on January 29, 1944 in LaCrosse, KS. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Butler, on August 30, 1996 and a sister, JoAnn Stevens. Survivors include his sons, David Butler and his wife, Kathy, Atchison, KS; Harlan Butler and his wife, Kelley, Norman, OK; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Masonic Service will begin at 5:30 with a visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Mr. Butler has been cremated and there will be a private family burial of cremains at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas Pharmacy Foundation, Atchison Hospital Hospice or the Knights Templar Eye Foundation and may be left in care of the funeral home.
