Description	:	E. P. Martin, Franklin resident for many years, passed away at his home last Friday morning. Mr. Martin's health began to fail this fall and he underwent an operation November 15 at the Hastings hospital. Mr. Martin's health began to fail this fall and he underwent an operation November 15 at the Hastings hospital. They could do nothing for him and he returned to Franklin to spend his last days in his home among his loved ones and friends. Edmond P. Martin, son of Isaac and Melissa Martin, was born in Crawfordsville, IN April 19, 1875 and passed away at his home in Franklin, December 30, 1948. When deceased was 6 years of age, the family moved to Red Wood Falls, MN. In the spring of 1887 they moved to a farm northeast of Franklin. On September 7, 1897 he was married to Rosa Hayes and they established a home on a farm northeast of town, where the four children were born. In 1912 they moved near Franklin where the mother passed away in 1926. He was brought up in the Christian faith being baptized at an early age and his faith never faltered even in his last illness. He taught Sunday School classes and served on the official board in both the Methodist and Congregational church. In 1929 Ed married Geneva Hayes (his wife's sister), who is left to remember him as a loyal helpmate and father to his four children, Paul E. of Wheaton, IL; Mrs. Lois Versaw, Mrs. Helen McKee, both of Franklin, and Mrs. Irma Byerly of Eureka, Calif. He also leaves 15 grandchildren, one brother, Plin, of Franklin, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. His only sister, Ruth, passed away in December, 1942. Paul E. Martin of Wheaton, IL and Mrs. Irma Byerly of Eureka, CA, did not come for the funeral since they visited their father, when he had his operation about six weeks ago. Pallbearers were Noble Johnson, Leland Cyr, Charlie Henderson, Dwight Newton, Charles Chalfon and Asa Chalfon. Honorary pallbearers were A. W. Campain, Bert Hayden, George Siel, Art Edghill, Heman Platt and Oscar Thomas. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Congregational church with Rev. Wm. Kline in charge. Fifteen members of the Congregational choir furnished the music. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery. Among those from out of town attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Niessen of Blue Hill; Mrs. Fern James, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin James, A. W. Campain and Helen Versaw, of Hastings; Mrs. Ann Cordle of Alma and Keith Versaw of Lincoln.
