Description	:	Edna Viola Halverson was the 6th of the 8 children of Halvor Halvorson and Laura Rossum Halvorson, arriving near Hills, Minnesota on August 30, 1906. She was baptized in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on September 23, 1906 and confirmed there July 23, 1921. On June 3, 1944 she married her lifetime love, Ralph Baker, after having met him at a USO event at the Bethlehem Lutheran church (a very brief courtship!). A few years later their only daughter Karen arrived. By 1955 they had settled in Lawrence, Kansas where they ran an ice cream shop near the University. Edna's optimism and sparkling good humor must have surely contributed mightily to their business success - she exuded cheerfulness! By 1998 they had moved to Omaha to be near their daughter Karen and her family. The family gathered in 2004 to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with family members coming from near and far. Then we gathered again in 2006 to celebrate Edna's 100th birthday. I remember her just about leaping off the couch (without leaning on the couch arm) to greet me when I arrived - her stamina and ongoing good humor were amazing. She and Ralph ended up in a continuing care facility where they were much loved. After her beloved Ralph died, we think Edna just decided life wasn't much fun without him as she died a scant few months later. She was my father's aunt and one of my favorite relatives ever. Written by her grandniece, Diane Scholten, granddaughter of Edna's oldest sister Myrtle Halvorson Scholten. Her obituary follows: Funeral services for Edna Baker, 102, Omaha, Neb., will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. She died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at Brighton Gardens in Omaha. Mrs. Baker was born Aug. 30, 1906, in Rock County, Minn., the daughter of Halvor and Laura Rossum Halvorsen. She was a longtime resident of Lawrence. Mrs. Baker was a teacher and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. She married Ralph V. Baker on June 3, 1944, in Hills, Minn. He died Nov. 13, 2008. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Spears.
