Description	:	SON ---- Edward Emerson Sterrett, son of Clark and Mary (Thompson) Sterrett, was born May 8, 1879, in Crawford County near Denison, Iowa. As a young man he went to California and worked in lumber camps and harvest fields. He returned to Iowa in 1903 and farmed in the Dow City area. In 1909, he went to South Dakota and homesteaded in the area open to homesteading on the Rose Bud Indian reservation. Read More	SON ---- Edward Emerson Sterrett, son of Clark and Mary (Thompson) Sterrett, was born May 8, 1879, in Crawford County near Denison, Iowa. As a young man he went to California and worked in lumber camps and harvest fields. He returned to Iowa in 1903 and farmed in the Dow City area. In 1909, he went to South Dakota and homesteaded in the area open to homesteading on the Rose Bud Indian reservation. He came to Anthon in 1913, making it his residence for the rest of his life, except for two years when he lived in Quimby. Though he worked in farming most of his life, his great interest in race horses led to an occupation as a horse trainer. He was a horse trainer in a number of stables around the country. Mr. Sterrett was baptized in the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Anthon Odd Fellows Lodge #557 and had served as treasurer and Noble Grand. Mr. Sterrett passed away at his home in Anthon March 10, 1966, aged 86 years. Survivors include two sisters, Nellie Sterrett of Anthon, and Mrs. Adda Vaughan of Lusk, Wyoming, two brothers, Walter Sr. and William both of Anthon, many nieces and nephews.
