Description	:	Walter Fred Sterrett, Sr., was born October 3, 1896 at Dow City, the son of Clark and Mary Eliza (Thompson) Sterrett. He moved to Anthon in 1918. He was a veteran of World War I. He married Martha Paulsen February 14, 1922, in Sioux City. He farmed in the area until 1964 when he retired to Anthon. Mr. Sterrett was a member and officer of the United Methodist Church of Anthon, past commander of McNiff Post, and a former school director and trustee of Miller and Kedron Townships. He moved to Anthon in 1918. He was a veteran of World War I. He married Martha Paulsen February 14, 1922, in Sioux City. He farmed in the area until 1964 when he retired to Anthon. Mr. Sterrett was a member and officer of the United Methodist Church of Anthon, past commander of McNiff Post, and a former school director and trustee of Miller and Kedron Townships. Walt, aged 73, died December 20, 1969, at his home after a long illness. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Anthon with Rev. Donald Harbour officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Walter Funeral Home. McNiff Post #389, American Legion of Anthon, conducted military rites at the cemetery. Survivors include the widow, daughters Marion (Mr. Chester F.) Speer of LeMars, Iowa, Shirley (Mrs. John) Beach of Red Oak, Iowa, son Walter Jr. of Anthon, sisters Mrs. Adda Vaughan of Lusk, Wyoming, Miss Nellie Sterrett of Anthon, and nine grandchildren.ORPS WW I VETERAN ----------
