Description	:	Miss Nellie Sterrett was born May 23, 1902, at Dow City, Iowa, the daughter of Clark and Mary Eliza (Thompson) Sterrett. She lived in the Dow City area until the age of 10 when she moved with her parents to a farm near Anthon. They lived in Quimby, Iowa, in 1920 and 1921 and then moved to a farm northwest of Anthon. Read More	Miss Nellie Sterrett was born May 23, 1902, at Dow City, Iowa, the daughter of Clark and Mary Eliza (Thompson) Sterrett. She lived in the Dow City area until the age of 10 when she moved with her parents to a farm near Anthon. They lived in Quimby, Iowa, in 1920 and 1921 and then moved to a farm northwest of Anthon. Miss Sterrett was the main caregiver for her parents in their final years and after their deaths was a housekeeper for her brothers, Arley and Ed, for many years. In 1950 she read a newspaper article ask for summer help on a Colorado dude ranch, applied and was offered the position. She was assigned cabin duty which consisted of making beds and keeping the cabins clean. Living on a dude ranch was a welcome change of pace for her and she returned to the Estes Park ranch each summer for eleven years. The rest of the year she returned to Anthon to do housework for her brothers. Crippling arthritis in her later years made it necessary for her to move into the Correctionville nursing home for the last five and one-half years of her life. Miss Sterrett died January 31, 1979, in a Sioux City hospital at the age of 76 years. Services were held at the Church of Christ in Anthon with Rev. Mervin Johnston officiating. Burial was made in Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Walter Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Fred Thompson, Walter Thompson, Nels Anderson, Jr., Wayne Pierce, Kenny Hair and Jerry Thompson. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Walter (Martha) Sterrett of Anthon, 14 nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
