Explosion causes clothing to catch fire and both are burned to crisp. Burned to death in her own home with her four months babe in her arms, who was also burned to death was the horrible fate of Mrs. George French. This terrible affair happened in the east part of Eldon last Monday morning at about 10 o'clock. Mrs. French poured from a gallon can what she supposed to be kerosene, but what is now thought to have been gasoline. Instantly there was a terrible explosion and the bodies of Mrs. French and the babe she was holding in her arms were enveloped in flames. Her husband who worked nights for the railroad company, was asleep in another room, heard the explosion and the scream of the unfortunate young wife and mother and came at once to the rescue, but unable to do anything. Mr. French, was, however, severely burned about the hands fighting in vain to extinguish the flames. Every stitch of clothing was burned from the body of Mrs. French, and so terrible was the explosion of the can that particles of clothing were driven into the flesh. Medical aid was summoned, and all that science and kind hands could do was to relieve the suffering and if possible to save their lives. They lived until near 4 o'clock when death released them from further suffering. The funeral was held at Mt. Gilead church Tuesday, and burial was made in the Mt. Gilead cemetery.
