Ward, at Glasco, Kansas, aged 78 years, 7 months, and 1 day. Miss Pitzer's father was a German. The mother was a descendant from the Putnam and Rexford families, both prominent in New England throughout the Revolutionary period. The family moved to Warren county, Indiana, and afterward to Illinois, settling on White River when the country was new. She came to Kansas in 1871 with her sister and mother, (Olive and Grandma Armstrong) and homesteaded the farm near Glasco, now owned by geo. Gruenthal. In 1872 Miss Pitzer was married to Charles Beach, whose death in Oklahoma from burns occurred December 13, 1916. Three children were born to this union, Almeda, who died in infancy, Mrs. H.G. Ward of Glasco, and J.R. Beach of Gypsum, Kansas. Mrs. Beach had lived in California during the last four years. Last fall she and her husband came to visit relatives in Kansas and Oklahoma. Since her return to Kansas she had been gaining in health, until the shock of her husband's death. Since then she had declined rapidly, yet her death from heart failure came very unexpectedly to her family and friends. She leaves her two children, four grandchildren, two brothers, Ira Pitzer of Glasco, and Jacob Pitzer now at Dansville, Illinois, a half-sister, Mrs. Hurd of Wainwright, Okla., and a step-sister, Mrs. Jas. Rothgib of Illinois, as well as many other relatives and friends. She was a loving mother, a faithful wife, and a good neighbor. That great Christian virtue, unselfishness, was one of her strongest characteristics. Mrs. Beach was an adherent of the Church of Christ Scientist. She was numbered in the home department work of one of the prominent Sunday schools in Orange, California. With the rest of the unnumbered dead she is laid to rest. Today death is victor but tomorrow when Jesus comes death will be destroyed in the resurrection. Till then may our Father help us -- the living -- to bear with patience all the sorrow that death brings and have the hope that purifies us day by day. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon, January 14th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. James Taylor, assisted by Rev. V. Sizemore, after which interment took place at the Glasco cemetery.
