Pitzer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Pitzer, was born March 21, 1841, in Warren county, Indiana, near Rainsville. She lived there with her parents until she met and married Mr. Jas. H. Neal in 1863. They both lived in Indiana until 1870, at which time they moved to Kansas and located at Glasco in the spring of 1871. Her father was a German and the mother was a descendant from the Putnam and Rexford families, both prominent in New England throughout the Revolutionary period. To this union were born three children, two of whom survive her, P.R. Neal and Mrs. Clara Baker, both of Glasco, Kansas. Olive E. Neal, the youngest daughter, died December 3, 1891, at the age of seventeen. J.H. Neal, the husband, preceded her by almost three years, at the age of 79 years, six months and seventeen days. Mrs. Neal died at her home in Glasco, Kansas, on Friday, January 12th, at 11 o'clock. Her death was very sudden and unexpected. That morning she was in good spirits and feeling well and doing the work of the home. She was 75 years, 9 months and 22 days old. Besides a son and daughter she is survived by two brothers and one half-sister, Mr. Ira Pitzer of Glasco, Kansas, Mr. Jacob Pitzer of Dansville, Illinois, and Mrs. M.L. Hurd of wainwright, Okla.; Mrs. Rothgib, a step-sister, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Neal joined the Methodist church in Indiana in 1867, and later was transferred to Glasco, Kansas, and was among one of the oldest surviving members. Of late she was unable to attend regularly but her interest in the work was no less intense. She was a good Christian, a loving mother and a kind neighbor. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Sunday afternoon, January 14th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. James Taylor, assisted by Rev. V. Sizemore, after which interment took place in the Glasco cemetery.
