Please do not send edit changes for this first name - any additional variations can be noted in this bio. Maiden name uncertain - might be "Coens", but supporting documentation not found. Although some family researchers have listed it as "Coens", there are other researchers who have also found it listed as "Coen", or "Coan". The maiden name is not entered on this memorial due to these variations - it isn't fair to other family researchers to assert the maiden name one way when there are other variations to consider, especially due to names found in census reports, obituaries, and any relevant birth and death records. Wife of Isaac Cox, whose full given name may well have been "Daniel Isaac Cox", with the possible use of the suffix "sr./Sr." to consider (not enough data to justify using on his memorial, however). Speculated to have been married in/about 1825, but there are other variations in other research to consider. Some of their children appear to have been born prior to 1825, so that date is not firm by any means. The death location is likely in Jefferson county, Iowa, but supporting documentation has not been found that is credible enough to justify using that as the death location. Iowa did not mandate birth and death records until 1880, and from that point into the early 1900's many deaths did not get recorded for one reason or the other. That Eleanor was buried in the pauper section of Evergreen cemetery suggests that she was buried at county expense, so she may have been a resident of the county home at the time of her death. Those records were destroyed in the 1970's so there isn't an easy way to determine her exact death location. ----------------- Note: There is a "Isaac Cox" family group sheet on file in the Fairfield Public Library family group sheet collection that was compiled by Verda Baird for a Shirley Cook in June, 1992. It is, however, marked with a notation "tentative until proven otherwise", with emphasis on the word "tentative" (underlined four times).
