Description	:	Eleanor L. (Peters) Gottula was born to Gustav and Clara (Buethe) Peters on Oct. 29, 1911 at rural Elk Creek, NE. Eleanor was baptized November 1911, by Rev. H.F. Grupe and confirmed in the Christian faith May 24, 1925 by Rev. I.C. Heinecke at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She attended Johnson Co. Dist. 27 School; St. Peter's Parochial School, 2 years at Elk Creek High School and graduated at Tecumseh High School in 1929 after completing normal training courses for teaching. (Peters) Gottula was born to Gustav and Clara (Buethe) Peters on Oct. 29, 1911 at rural Elk Creek, NE. Eleanor was baptized November 1911, by Rev. H.F. Grupe and confirmed in the Christian faith May 24, 1925 by Rev. I.C. Heinecke at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She attended Johnson Co. Dist. 27 School; St. Peter's Parochial School, 2 years at Elk Creek High School and graduated at Tecumseh High School in 1929 after completing normal training courses for teaching. Prior to her marriage, Eleanor taught at Johnson Co. School District 68 and Pawnee County District 30. On October 4, 1934 Eleanor was united in marriage to Richard Gottula at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. To this union two daughters were born; Janice and Judy. Eleanor and Richard rented a farm southwest of Elk Creek and later moved to a farm 5 miles north of Table Rock. Devout in their faith, they were members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where Eleanor was a charter member of Dorcas Society (60 years) and moved to Tecumseh in 1978 at which time they became members of St. John's Lutheran Church and Eleanor became a member of the St. John's Ladies Aid. She was also a long time member of the Pawnee County and Johnson County Extension Clubs. Eleanor enjoyed sewing, gardening, bible study, playing cards, doing volunteer work and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Richard passed away March 7, 2001. Eleanor moved to Ridgeview Towers in April of 2003 and after having a stroke, moved to Belle Terrace in June of 2003. After failing health, she passed away on March 14, 2008 having reached the age of 96 years, 4 months and 16 days. She is survived by her daughters, Janice Covault and her husband Roy and Judy Helberg and husband Rod all of Lincoln, 3 grandchildren, Curt and Brian Covault of Lincoln and Lisa Moriarty and husband Brent of Kansas City, 3 great-grandchildren, sister, Ruth Hurst and husband Hudson of Camden, SC, sisters-in-law, Ruby Peters and Marion Peters of Tecumseh and numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, infant brother, Reuben, sister, Alma Carmine and brothers, Raymond and Orval Peters. Funeral services were held at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 with Rev. John Diener officiating. Loretta Kerchal accompanied congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "I'm But a Stranger Here", "Beautiful Savior", "In the Garden" and "I Know My Redeemer Lives." Pallbearers were William Buethe, Ron Gottula, Curtis Covault, Brian Covault, Gary Peters, Lori Gottula and Bobbi Gottula. Honorary pallbearers were Elmo Schaardt, Roxy Gottula, Dixie Gottula and Roger Peters. Interment was in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek. Memorials may go to the St. John's Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour Ministries. (The Pawnee Republican, Thursday, March 27, 2008)
