Description	:	Orval William "Jake" Peters, 80, passed away July 2, 1997 in Elk Creek. He was born October 11, 1916 to Gustav Robert and Clara Rosa (Buethe) Peters on the Peters farm three miles west of Elk Creek. He was baptized on November 15, 1916 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by Pastor H.F. Grupe. His sponsors were Wilhelm Geweke, F.M. Wilhelm Bartels, and Arthur Buethe. He was confirmed on May 25, 1930 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by Pastor I.C. Heinicke. His confirmation verse was "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life." Rev. 2:10. He attended District 27 School, St. Peter's Lutheran School and the Elk Creek High School through the grade 10. Jake was united in marriage to Ruby Rambat on Oct. 3, 1940 at St. John's American Lutheran Church at Bird City, Kansas. The officiating pastor was the Reverend T.A. Krueger. To this union were born two sons, Roger Lynn and Terrance John (T.J.). Jake belonged to St. Peter's Lutheran Church all his life and served on the parochial school board. He was a lifelong farmer and livestock breeder. He served on the Johnson County Extension Board, the Elk Creek School Board; and the ASCS Board. He enjoyed his retirement years giving a helping hand to his friends and neighbors and helping his boys when he could. Jake was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Alma Carmine, and an infant brother, Reuben. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of Elk Creek; two sons, Roger and Terrance (T.J.) and wife Malinda, of Fort Worth, Texas; one granddaughter, Meghan Chapin Peters, of Weston, Missouri; one brother, Raymond and wife, Marion, of Tecumseh; two sisters, Eleanor Gottula and husband, Richard, of Tecumseh and Ruth Hurst and husband, Hudson, of Camden, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 6, 1997 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Elk Creek with the Reverend Robert Shermbeck officiating. Pallbearers were John Rambat, Gary Peters, Roger Peters, Royce Rambat, Lorain Krueger, and Willis Buethe. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Bartels, Lloyd Beethe, Wayne Bergmeyer, Arnold Buethe, Bill Buethe, Eldon Buethe, Milton Buethe, Ronald Buethe, Lee Covault, Joel Dunekacke, Eugene Gottula, Rodney Helberg, Leland Krueger, Robert Othmer, LeRoy Peters, Lonny Peters, Jeff Peters, Leo Wenzl, Bill Willis, Roger Woltemath, and Gene Young.
