THOMAS BUTLER CALLED BY DEATH Ellen Malone was born in County Killkeny, Ireland, Aug. 15, 1839. When a child, with her family, she emigrated to America and settled near Madison, Wis., where, on June 6, 1864, she was married to Thomas Butler in St. Raphael's church. They came to Kansas in 1870 and settled on their farm southeast of Glasco. During the first few years they suffered the difficulties and trial of pioneer life. How much might be said of her charity and loving kindness toward all in those days. It was her kindness and goodness of heart above all else that won for her the love and esteem, which she ever held, in the hearts of all who knew her. They moved to Glasco three and one half years ago, where she died at the family residence on Tuesday, Mar. 29, 1910, of pneumonia. She had not been strong for many years and all that medical aid and loving care could do was of no avail. Prayer was her refuge in trials, and consolation in sickness and suffering. She died strengthened by the last rites of the Catholic church, of which she was always a faithful member. She leaves a husband, three sons -- Martin, John D., Richard H., -- two daughters -- Mrs. H.L. Reed and Anna, fourteen grandchildren, also one sister, living at Waunnakee, Wis. to mourn her loss. She was humble, gentle and retiring, a good woman, a true loving wife and mother, and a friend to all. Well might the words of the apostle Paul be applied to her -- "I have finished my course: I have fought a good fight: I have kept the faith: for the rest there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord, the just Judge, will render to me." The funeral services were held at St. Mary's church on Thursday morning, Father Donovan officiating. After mass he delivered an appropriate sermon. The very large number who attended and the many beautiful floral offerings, sent by friends, showed the esteem in which she was held. Her remains, followed by a large concourse of people, were laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery, near Glasco. May her soul rest in peace.
