She was born September 17, 1911 at Fairview, Kansas, the daughter of William P. and Floy Thompson Lambertson. She was graduated from Fairview High School, attended Kansas State Agricultural College at Manhattan and George Washington University, Washington, D.C.. She graduated from the Washburn University School of Law at Topeka, and was admitted to the bar in Topeka in January, 1936. Elise was married to Robert Reynolds March 1, 1936, at her parents home in Fairview, with Governor Alf Landon as a surprise guest. Her husband survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Martha Dunster, Congresbury, England; a son, Michael G. Reynolds, Los Angles; a sister, Mrs. Edwina Copeland, Watsonville, California; two brothers, Alonzo Lambertson, Fairview; and Milan Lambertson, Ottawa, Kansas. She had three grandsons: Paul, James and Mark Dunster. For a number of years Mrs. Reynolds was an abstracter in the office of Finley and Miller, Hiawatha attorneys, with whom she had briefly practiced after law school. She was also secretary of the Morrill Free Public Library board of directors, and was quite active in Hiawatha Hospital Guild. Before the years when she and Bob spent a great deal of time at their house on the Missouri River, she was a member of the Saturday Club, and organist at the First Baptist Church where she was a member. Elise had a bright and inquiring mind. Her interests were many. She read avidly, particularly in the realms of biography, drama and history. She was a remarkable for the unusual periodicals she subscribed to, like the Saturday Review, the Manchester Guardian, and the New Yorker. She had an intellectual's convictions about current affairs, and could discuss many topics, partly the result of her wide reading. When Elise died, it was while she was gathering black walnuts. She often gave nutmeats as Christmas gifts, and we appreciated the time, effort and generosity that this required. She was an active person to the last-- an avid gardener, someone who enjoyed the out-of-doors. She and Bob were both interested in watching birds. She was a member of the Audubon Society, and for years reported to the Society the number of eagles nearby on the Missouri River. She liked music, and particularly enjoyed baseball. Beyond a doubt, she was the best "listener" in the family, which endeared her to her siblings, and nieces and nephews. Her diversity of interests enabled her to be an interesting conversationalist. One of the characteristics that set her apart was the energy with which she approached any task. If it was worth doing, it was worth doing now and quickly-- whether it was washing the dishes or picking strawberries, or whatever. Further proof of this attitude is the fact that she entered law school and passed the bar when few women were doing that. All in all, she was truly a role model for the younger members of the family, and a thoughtful and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend whom we will miss.
