She was the 12th of GUY SILVERSIDES and MARY (TOMLINSON) SILVERSIDES' thirteen children. ELLEN SILVERSIDES spent her early years in Riccall with her parents and siblings. On 31 January 1850 she was married to JOHN WALKER in the Church of St. John the Baptist in nearby Wilberfoss, Yorkshire, England and it was in Wilberfoss that they settled and they became the parents of four sons, all of whom were born in Wilberfoss: 1. ROBERT WALKER, born on 25 February 1851 in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire; married MARY BROADLEY of Wilberfoss there on 20 August 1869; departed England for Ontario, Canada in 1872 and then emigrated from there with his family to Harrisville, Alcona County, Michigan, USA where he remained until he died on 6 May 1940. 2. WILLIAM JOHN WALKER, born on 12 February 1854 in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire; married FRANCES EMMA THOMPSON in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire in June 1875 and after she died in 1902 in Bilton with Harrogate, Yorkshire was remarried to a Spanish lady FLOLENE HIGHFORTH in Leeds, West Riding, Yorkshire on 4 February 1908; he died in Leeds, West Riding, Yorkshire on 3 March 1932 3. FRED WALKER, born on 9 January 1856 in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire and died there on 8 May 1856. 4. JOHN WALKER, born 24 October 1862 in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire; married ADA COVERDALE in 1887 in Selby, North Yorkshire; he died in December 1935 in York, Yorkshire. At the time of the 1861 and 1871 British Census reports, ELLEN and JOHN WALKER resided in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire. In the 1881 British Census report, ELLEN and JOHN WALKER were listed at Whitemoor Farm in Osgodby, Selby, North Yorkshire. Following, JOHN WALKER's death in 1884, ELLEN was remarried to JOHN PENROSE in January in Selby, North Yorkshire and they resided at Blackwood Farm, North Duffield, Civil Parish - Skipwith in the Selby District of North Yorkshire. ELLEN WALKER PENROSE died at Blackwood Farm, North Duffield, Skipwith, North Yorkshire on 7 September 1891, aged 58 years" according to the Yorkshire Herald. JOHN PENROSE died there in 1896. They were both buried in St. Helen's Churchyard in Skipwith, Selby District, North Yorkshire.
