Currer on 26 February 1822 states that " Whereas MARY WALKER of Westow, single woman in her examination in writing taken under oath before me, one of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the East Riding of Yorkshire, deposed, That JOHN ASHTON the Younger & Butcher did beget her with child and is the true father of the male bastard whereof... Read More	JOHN WALKER was born on 20 April 1820 in Westow, North Yorkshire, England. His mother was MARY WALKER and his father was JOHN ASHTON. JOHN WALKER was christened on 14 May 1820 in the Church of St. Mary, Westow, North Yorkshire, England. He was raised by his grandmother and they resided in Huttons Ambo, Yorkshire at the time of the 1841 Census. On 31 January 1850, JOHN WALKER was married to ELLEN SILVERSIDES in St. John the Baptist Church in Wilberfoss, Yorkshire and they settled in Wilberfoss, Yorkshire and became the parents of four sons who were all born in Wilberfoss: 1. ROBERT WALKER, born 25 February 1851 in Wilberfoss, East Riding,Yorkshire; married MARY BROADLEY of Wilberfoss there on 20 August 1869; departed England for Ontario, Canada in 1872 and then emigrated from there with his family to Harrisville, Alcona County, Michigan, USA where he remained until he died on 6 May 1940. 2. WILLIAM JOHN WALKER, born 12 February 1854 in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire; married FRANCES EMMA THOMPSON in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire in June 1875 and after she died in Bilton with Harrogate in 1902 was remarried to a Spanish lady FLOLENE HIGHFORTH in Leeds, West Riding Yorkshire on 4 February 1908; he died in Leeds, West Riding Yorkshire on 3 March 1932. 3. FRED WALKER, born 9 January 1856 in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire and died there on 8 May 1856. 4. JOHN WALKER, christened on 24 October 1862 in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire; married ADA COVERDALE in 1887 in Selby, North Yorkshire ; he died in December 1935 in York, Yorkshire. JOHN and ELLEN WALKER were listed in Wilberfoss, East Riding, Yorkshire in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 Census reports. In 1881 they were listed with JOHN AMBROSE at Whitemoor Farm, Osgodby in Selby, North Yorkshire. JOHN WALKER died on 10 December 1884 at Blackwood Farm, North Duffield, Civil Parish - Skipwith, Selby Registration District, North Yorkshire, England of "a lingering and painful illness, aged 65 years" according to the YORK HERALD on 20 December 1884.
