Description	:	Elmer Emanuel Asklund,79 September 30, 1892 ~ May 23, 1970 Elmer Emanuel was born September 30, 1892 in Ogden, Iowa to Gust and Maria (Hagaleen) Asklund. He completed two years of high school before going to work for the steam railroad, the Chicago and North Western. World War I broke out, and on June 11, 1919 this tall young man, 20 years old, with medium build, blue eyes and light hair walked into the draft registration office. Read More	Elmer Emanuel Asklund,79 September 30, 1892 ~ May 23, 1970 Elmer Emanuel was born September 30, 1892 in Ogden, Iowa to Gust and Maria (Hagaleen) Asklund. He completed two years of high school before going to work for the steam railroad, the Chicago and North Western. World War I broke out, and on June 11, 1919 this tall young man, 20 years old, with medium build, blue eyes and light hair walked into the draft registration office. He was still single, and working as Signal Helper 23 for the C & NE railway. On Sept. 20, 1917, Elmer enlisted, and was honorably discharged June 11, 1919. He returned to Iowa and the railroad. He married Myrtle May, a girl from Wisconsin, and by 1940 they had been blessed with at least one child, Betty Lou. The 1940 US Census shows that they had been living at 223 West Huron Street in Missouri Valley, Iowa since at least 1935, and Elmer was still employed by the CNW Railway. In 1940 he held the position of Maintainer of the Signal Dept. of the Steam Railway. Elmer died May 23, 1970.
